Correct needle position. Precise insertion needle technique is critical to the success of venipuncture. The needle bevel must be correctly positioned in the vein to allow the free flow of blood or it may not flow into the tube or syringe properly or at all. To correctly position the needle in the vein, insert the needle into the vein bevel up and at an angle between 15 and 30 degrees so that bevel ends up in the centered in the lumen of the vein and can moved slightly within the vein without going into or through the vein wall.
