Welcome to so very easy, my name is Laura, and sewing machine needles have been around since, well, sewing machines have been around. Let’s face it. How much can change with the sewing machine needle? Well, Schmetz Needles 𝘩𝘢𝘴 changed the sewing machine needle. Schmetz has chrome-plated the needle. Now chrome is great because it resists heat. And you wouldn’t think of a sewing machine needle as getting hot, but it does. It goes so often through that fabric, the friction does make it hot. So the chrome needle resists that heat. It resists wear and tear of having to constantly go through all that fabric. And because it resists the heat, it’s going to stay cool longer, so the needle won’t actually distort. Chrome helps with the thread going through that eye of the needle. It has less friction through the eye and [less] build up. It’s just generally a better needle. Now chrome has been used for years in the industry. They’ve turned it into home sewing machine needles. Another great thing is color-coded cards. Man, this makes it a lot easier on my eyes. Around the top of the needle you’re going to find some color-coded bars painted on the inside of the needle. And each of those colors represents something. So no more trying to read what that needle says on the inside. And they’ve taken that color code and they put it on their packages, so at a glance you’re going to be able to know exactly what this is. For example, the top green represents quilting, so the top of that [needle] is going to have green. The next is the blue and that represents the size. So that’s going to be a 90/14, and if you look really close at that, you are going to see the green and the blue right on top of that needle. The other thing they’ve done is they’ve developed an app so you can have an app on your phone and you can figure out exactly what needle that you should be using. They also have a lot of online tutorials that will teach you really in depth about all of the different needles. So not only did they make the needle better, they made it easier to read. When you take that out of your machine, you are going to see the color codes around that end and you’re going to know what you had in the machine. No more reading those tiny little ends. Now I’m going to put a link in the description to their videos, which covers all sorts of material even about how to choose needles. And I’ll also put a link to their app so you’ll always have that out handy. And thank you for joining me today on Tuesday’s Tips. Feel free to subscribe and, as always, come on back. Let’s see what we’re sewing next time in the sewing room. Bye for now!

  1. Have you done a quick tips on scissor care and cleaning? I got basting glue on mine and not sure how to get off. Thanks.

  2. Thanks so much for the app link..the new packaging is going to be a great help as I'm rather short and the store where I get my needles from put them on the top shelf…can't see a darn thing 😂

  3. Thank you so much for your tips. They have led me to some new and great products. I use Schmetz needles all the time. This is great news!!! Peace and blessings.
