Hello, my name is Sheila. I did long distance Reiki on my friend
who had difficulty in sleeping. The end result was that she did not sleep
at all, woke up with a migraine, tender shoulder. At the same time, I ended up with my own headache,
diarrhea, and nausea, on the same day. Where did I go wrong? Thank you for your help! Hi. This is Angie Webster with Reiki Rays. Thank you for your question, Sheila. It sounds very likely that both you and your
friend experienced a healing response. Let me explain. When we send Reiki healing to someone, we
often expect a certain result. Usually that the symptoms or illness that they are having
difficulty with will be relieved immediately. However, many times what will happen is that
right after the healing session, their symptoms will increase somewhat for a short period
of time, usually 24-48 hours or even up to 3 days. In some cases, other symptoms may arise during
this period or emotions may come to the surface that the client wasn’t aware of before. This is often called a healing crisis or a
healing response. Rather than being a signal that the healer
has done something wrong, it is a sign that the Reiki energy has moved many blockages
and toxins are releasing from the client’s system. These toxins and blockages may clear on the
mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical level – anywhere that clearing is needed. Clearing is likely to be most obvious on the
physical level and may appear as fatigue, headaches, diarrhea, increased urination,
and many other ways that are specific to your client. When we give Reiki to a client, we are also
receiving Reiki healing ourselves. Therefore, we may also have a healing response
at times. This is more likely to happen if we are new
to Reiki practice, or if we don’t have a daily practice of self-Reiki. When we practice daily self-Reiki, we generally
keep our systems open and clear, so the likelihood of a noticeable healing response is lessened,
though it may still happen from time to time. The best way to tell the difference between
a healing response and the onset of a new illness or the increase of an already existing
illness is to watch for signs such as fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius),
signs of dehydration, or symptoms that worsen or persist beyond 72 hours. Anything that is excessive and prolonged may
not be a healing response and should be considered for medical attention. I hope this has clarified the matter for you. Many blessings and Namaste.
