CONGRATULATIONS, NAOMI. NO MORE BOOING.>>AND U.S. OPEN CHAMP, NAOMI OSAKA JOINS US NOW. GOOD MORNING AND CONGRA CONGRATULATIONS.>>THANK YOU.>>LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR WIN. YOU’RE THE U.S. OPEN CHAMP. YOU’RE SO YOUNG. FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW TENNIS AS WELL AS OTHERS, YOU CAME OUT FROM NOWHERE AND HAD THIS INCREDIBLE TOURNAMENT. HOW ARE YOU FEELING THIS MORNING? IS IT STILL SINKING IN?>>I’VE NEVER BEEN ON A TALK SHOW BEFORE, SO –>>WE’RE YOU’RE FIRST?>>YEAH.>>I’M HAPPY TO BE HERE. IT STILL FEELS A LITTLE SURREAL. I THINK IT’S SLOWLY SINKING IN.>>I THINK WHAT WAS SO COOL, WHEN YOU WERE IN THIRD GRADE, YOU WROTE A PAPER ABOUT SOMEONE YOU IDOLIZED AND THAT WAS SERENA WILLIAMS. YOU COLORED IT IN. IT WAS A WHOLE THING. HOW DID IT FEEL KNOWING YOU WOULD BE PLAYING CENTER COURT ACROSS FROM HER? WHAT DID YOU SAY TO YOURSELF TO GIVE YOU THE CONFIDENCE TO PLAY THAT MATCH?>>I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH. I PLAYED HER ONCE BEFORE IN MIAMI. AND IT DIDN’T FEEL THAT REAL BECAUSE IT WAS A GRAND SLAM THIS TIME. AND JUST WATCHING HER PLAY IN GRAND SLAM FINALS BEFORE WHEN I WAS A KID, IT FELT REALLY DIFFERENT. COMING INTO THIS MATCH I WAS REALLY NERVOUS.>>DID YOU THINK, THERE’S SERENA. OR DID YOU KEEP YOUR BRAIN FOCUSED IN ANOTHER WAY?>>WHEN I WAS, LIKE — RIGHT BEFORE I WAS WALKING ON TO THE COURT, I WAS FREAKING OUT A LITTLE BIT. WHEN I WENT ON TO THE COURT, IT DIDN’T FEEL LIKE SERENA. IT FELT LIKE SHE WAS ANOTHER PLAYER.>>YOU HAD A GREAT MATCH AND A GREAT TOURNAMENT. PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT YOU FOR TWO WEEKS AT THE U.S. OPEN. YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY SOME STUFF WENT ON ON THE COURT DURING THE MATCH. I MEAN, FIRST OF ALL, YOU’RE THE OPPONENT. YOU’RE SITTING THERE, TRYING TO PLAY YOUR GAME. WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR MIND? DID YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING BETWEEN SERENA AND THE REF? COULD YOU HEAR IT?>>I DIDN’T REALLY KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON BECAUSE I WENT TO THE BACK AND I HAD MY BACK TURNED. AND BEFORE I KNEW IT, HE WAS SAYING THERE WAS A GAME PENALTY. SO, I WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE THING.>>AND THERE WAS A CHORUS OF BOOS TARGETED, I THINK, AT THE UMPIRE. BUT IN YOUR MIND, YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. WHAT WERE YOU FEELING FROM THE CROWD IN THOSE MOMENTS?>>WELL, I FELT A LITTLE SAD BECAUSE I WASN’T REALLY SURE IF THEY WERE BOOING AT ME OR IT WASN’T THE OUTCOME THAT THEY WANTED. AND I ALSO COULD SYMPATHIZE BECAUSE I’VE BEEN A FAN OF SERENA MY WHOLE LIFE. AND I KNEW THAT HOW BADLY THE CROWD WANTED HER TO WIN. I DON’T KNOW. I WAS JUST REALLY EMOTIONAL UP THERE.>>IT WAS EMOTIONAL. I MEAN, SIDE-BY-SIDE, THERE YOU ARE. THIS IS THE MOMENT OF YOUR CAREER. YOU’VE BEEN WORKING FOR THIS SINCE YOU WERE 3 YEARS OLD. AND THERE’S YOUR MOMENT. AND EVERYBODY’S CRYING. HOW DID YOU FEEL? WHAT DID YOU THINK WHEN SERENA SAID, NAOMI, YOU DID IT? THIS IS YOUR MOMENT.>>I FELT REALLY HAPPY BECAUSE I FELT LIKE SHE KNEW THAT I WAS CRYING. AND SHE WAS SAYING SOME THINGS AND IT JUST MADE ME HAPPY OVERALL.>>ONE OF THE MOST POIGNANT THINGS THAT HAPPENED DURING THE TROPHY CEREMONY. THEY INTERVIEWED YOU. WE’RE GOING TO PLAY A TINY BIT OF IT. I THINK IT STRUCK A LOT OF US. TAKE A LOOK.>>HOW DOES THE REALITY COMPARE WITH THE DREAM?>>I’M GOING TO SORT OF DIFFER FROM YOUR QUESTION. I’M SORRY.>>NO PROBLEM.>>I KNOW THAT EVERYONE WAS CHEERING FOR HER AND I’M SORRY IT HAD TO END LIKE THIS.>>YOU SAID A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL THINGS. BUT YOU SORT OF APOLOGIZED FOR DOING WHAT YOU HAD SET OUT TO DO IN A WAY. TELL US ABOUT THAT MOMENT.>>WELL, I DON’T KNOW. I JUST FELT LIKE EVERYONE WAS SORT OF UNHAPPY UP THERE. AND I KNOW THAT IT WASN’T REALLY, LIKE — THE ENDING WASN’T HOW PEOPLE WANTED IT TO BE. IN MY DREAMS, I WON IN A VERY TOUGH, COMPETITIVE MATCH. I DON’T KNOW. I FELT VERY EMOTIONAL. AND I FELT LIKE I HAD TO APOLOGIZE.>>WHEN YOU LOOK NOW, AND NOW, I’M SURE YOU’VE READ AND LEARNED WHAT THIS CONTROVERSY WAS ABOUT, DO YOU HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT WHETHER THE UMPIRE DID THE RIGHT THING. WHETHER SERENA DID THE RIGHT THING? NOW THAT YOU KNOW THE FACTS, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT?>>WELL, I’M NOT REALLY THAT 100% SURE BECAUSE I KIND OF HAVEN’T REALLY HAD TIME TO LOOK TOO MUCH AT THE NEWS. AND I’VE BEEN, LIKE, GOING ALL OVER THE PLACE.>>YEAH.>>SO, I CAN’T FORM AN OPINION. I WANT TO WATCH EVERYTHING AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. THIS IS SORT OF ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS THAT’S HAPPENED TO ME.>>CAN WE SHOUT OUT YOUR MOM WHO IS

  1. Look at her and look at him. You might go? .. Well how nice of you. Enjoy being single and cats the rest of your life.

  2. If Sarena lost due to "sexism", how did Naomi win? (Oops, can't play the racism card in a pinch?)

The level of William's hypocrisy and immaturity is completely ridiculous. History will not look kindly on the end of her career.

  3. It’s sad that this young lady had to endure that type of BS from the crowd. She won the match and deserved to win. She should never had to say sorry for winning a match that she worked he whole life to win. #TeamNaomi

  4. when the man serena said he should be proud or whatever…serena was trying to save face, serena reminds me of Hillary, she expects to win, and blames everyone else but themselves

  5. To a Japanese person she might look foreign, but her manner of talking and those minor nods of the head betray her origins. She could've been speaking in Japanese and I wouldn't have noticed! (I'm a half-Japanese too)

  6. Dumb interviewers. "Congratulations on your successful career. Now let's talk about Serena."
Every question has Serena in it.

  7. This beautiful ,humble young woman of mixed background is the kind of woman which can restore the hope men in womankind. What a difference between her and Serena Williams and these two white women, women which don't know the meaning of the word humility but know very well the meaning of self entitlement.Naomi Osaka is a really good woman and she should be a poster girl for what real femininity looks like.

  8. So humble….contrast with Serena …. she may win 100 slams but I have no respect for her … she had the chance to be a great role model but she is not

  9. As a Chinese, I like her for her calmness and humility and so proud that she represents the virtue of east Asian culture. Very different from the antagonist, arrogant character of Serena. Very intelligent answers not to give any more things to the media. Best of luck to you Osaka! Lovely to see some fresh new face and she completely deserves the title. But in the future, don't apologize for things you didn't do! Warmest regards from Shanghai, China.

  10. Naomi is a beauty. She outshined Serena people need to get over it and give this young woman her props. Serena cant be dominant and great forever, her time may have come and gone. Lets celebrate the up an coming talent. its time for a new face of professional tennis.

  11. This is the world.. when you re on top of the game they will highly praise you but when you re at the bottom.. they are the same people who drag you down… they dont even have their own victory

  12. Serena should be ashamed of herself! This young woman idolized her and that’s how she acted in defeat! Pathetic self centered b!

  13. What annoys me is that her interview was mostly about serena. like how about congratulations or talk about how she played. Serena already had a bunch of news stories. let naomi have her moment! she deserves it! so sweet and humble! also my favorite tennis player! Congrats Naomi and I hope you win even more!

  14. She’s so humble and so truthful. She’s amazing and the crowd that was booing her, shame on you. I’m glad she won ❤️

  15. Her opinion is obviously serena William's acted like a spoiled victim mentality brat lol go watch ESPN review on it and this was sad for her robbed her of her moment it was bs and serena should be ashamed

  16. Serena's dramatic outburst at the umpire didn't have a place at the U.S. open. Her behavior was outrageous demanding an apology from the umpire. She should have been also fined for disrupting the match. Naomi won deservedly playing a great match. She shouldn't have had to apologize for winning and being made to feel bad by the crowd booing. It's not the way to treat anyone.

  17. Those Today show hosts need to be replaced by professional intelligent interviewers. They were boring and frankly, rude.

  18. Naomi seems like a very bright kid. These 2 woman don’t know a tennis ball from a golf ball. Kept asking her questions all had to do with Serena. They should have talked about Naomi!!!!! Not that over the hill former player. Horrible interview

  19. How pathetic, those "reporters" were like hawks wanting Naomi to say something controversial just so they get views, how evil and heartless… Just look at their eyes, fake and dishonest, just like their souls. Corrupt to the core, I couldn't stand even looking at those harpies.

  20. Wow, she sounds exactly like Sharapova!! Entirely different personality though, what a charming girl champion!👍👍💪

  21. So sad to see a girl deserving of the fame in the shadow of someone who lost her cool. Respect Osaka you are awesome

  22. Naomi, you are too kind. Those two blabbing idiots are in fact sorry that you crushed their American idol. They will show her towering over you whenever they have an opportunity. Arrogant and despicable.

  23. Couching from the side lines, Insulting the empire and she even pulls out the woman card. How pathetic. It is sad because this immature outburst kind of took away from Naomi's amazing victory and she didn't deserve that. She earned her way to the top and bested a legend in the sport who just happened to be a bad sport. Sad!
