When a person comes to us for help, usually things have gotten so out of balance at that
point that obviously the person’s seeking help. Creating imbalances within the body
happens slowly and almost imperceptibly over a long period of time. Quite often, things
starting from childhood that don’t really manifest till maybe we’re in our 40’s or 50’s
or 60’s. And there, again, what’s important to know is that, yes, we can go in there and
so to speak, help reprogram the body’s energy, like we’re reprogramming a computer almost,
only just the human body is the most complex computer that has ever been created. So, it’s
going to take some time to really change some things, and it may take two or three visits.
Occasionally, we have someone that’s much better after one visit. Some people may take
10 or 20 visits because, again, these are imbalances that have developed over a lifetime.
SARAH HAUER: Some of the variables or influences that can affect the rate at which some people
recover. Some people recover very quickly. Some people take quite a long period of time.
Some people have chronic problems that never quite resolve. There are a lot of factors
but two that we talked about quite often in Chinese medicine are prenatal and postnatal
qi. To talk about postnatal qi, this is the qi that we can really affect through right
living. We can increase the quality of our qi by our self-care, by how we eat, how we
rest, how we play in our activities, our daily activities, and this is not having too much
or little. This is really the moderate. The moderation is the key here. The middle path
is what we’re talking about. So, this postnatal qi is something that we have a lot of influence
over, and this is something that we work on in your treatment time by trying to help you
identify which areas are areas that you can work on, and part of it is nutrition. And
Chinese nutrition, it’s a very personal thing; there isn’t one nutrition plan that we have
for each individual. We are going to look at your constitution. We’re going to look
at whether you have more of a deficient constitution or an excess constitution. And examples of
this are if someone is deficient, then they tend to be a little bit more pale, their voice
tends to be a little more soft, they tend to not have as much energy when they walk
into the room. You can very easily see which people tend to be a little more deficient.
Excess people are very easy to identify as well. They’re very loud. They may have a very
red face. They may be very robust or a little overweight as well.
